If you have been working out lately, the chances are that you have installed at least one free fitness app on your mobile device. Such apps allow you to control the calories you are burning as you are exercising, as well as keep track of your performance and check your health rate. This all sounds tempting, especially when you are interested in.
This all sounds tempting, especially when you are interested in maximising the benefits you get out of physical exercise. But, in every coin, there are two sides and this is a coin to consider! Free fitness apps do not cost you anything money-wise, but they do cost you in personal information.
The apps you are using gather information about the calories you are burning every day, as much as the calories you take via nutrition and of course your location and physical condition.
When weighed together, these details may prove to be catastrophic for you. So, you need to be proactive and monitor what you share with others – even if the others involve an app on your mobile. What can you do for avoiding safety hazards, while using free fitness apps?
- Lie about your ID: Nobody will know, if you register under a fake name on the app. This will keep you protected, without offering others the opportunity to combine your ID with specific details shared on the app.
- Use a VPN: If you use a VPN on your mobile device, you will be able to stay off the hook. Others will not have the chance to access your personal data. You will encrypt your traffic, have a new IP address and hence everyone will see a wall and not your sensitive data.
- Do not overshare: Last but not least, be sure to avoid oversharing about your physical status and your habits. These are all details that add up and can cause trouble to you. You do not want others to know that you leave home every day at 8 and come back at 10, leaving your personal space unattended now, do you?
If you are cautious and considerate, free fitness apps can be a great tool for you. The only thing you need to pay attention to is the exposure of your personal life. Once you control that, you will be able to enjoy the advantages of a free fitness app, without having to suffer from negative consequences about privacy deriving from these apps!
